Masserie Villas

The Masseria's origins

The typical Masseria’s structure, or Apulia farmhouse, often included a building closed to the outside and with the openings towards the court or the large courtyard. In the case of fortified farms, the perimeter walls, without openings, served as protection against intruders and allowed defines against acts of brigandage. The grand front entrance, blocked by a sturdy door that allowed access to the large backyard even for carriages and freight wagons.
